Canaveral National Seashore

Yesterday we spent the morning at Turtle Mound and Eldora two delightful places in the Canaveral National Seashore that are great for seeing plants and butterflies.

The first thing that we saw was a Common Ground Dove, neither botanical nor a butterfly, but nice none-the-less.

This Phaeon Crescent was basking in the morning sun.

Abbot’s bagworm moth cocoon.

Ramalina usnea, lace lichen. This is a lichen I had somehow missed over the years when traveling in Florida.

Shoestring fern, a strange and interesting fern that we find in the south annually.

One of three armadillo that we found along the road yesterday.

And finally a twice-stabbed lady beetle.

More tomorrow…

  1. what a gorgeous photo of an armadillo!!! I have never seen one in person! Beautiful! And the lace lichen looks very much like Spanish moss; I read the lichen is truly an algae-fungi and the moss is a bromeliad. Thank you for sharing.
