Yesterday we left Eugene to spend two days on the coast. We’re staying in Yachats but will be visiting various places on or near to the ocean.

Once again we had amazing weather for traveling,

When we got to Florence, on the main coastal highway we stopped at Fresh Harvest Cafe for lunch which was excellent.

Just north of Florence we stopped at the Darlingtonia Wayside Park. There is the most amazing stand of cobralilies here. This small bog has 1000s of these tall carnivorous plants. There are also a lot of other interesting bog plants. Unfortunately, it was raining when we were there – the only rain we had all day.

Here’s the beach-house that Susan found for us. The view on the right is the sun setting before we headed out for dinner. Bordering to our south is a state park, with a small wetland to the north.

Dinner was at the Drift Inn. We’ve stayed there several times, but not this year. Dinner wa once again excellent.
Lots planned for later today.
More tomorrow…
The Pacific Northwest coast is so different from the Northeast coast! It’s not lobster and scallops, but it’s crab and razor clams. And rainforest and bog plants and lichens and mosses. And the restaurants seem like where flower children meet the wild wild west. Very interesting place it seems! Thanks for sharing the expereince, we love the photos. There is something about a house on the ocean! Heaven.
