Thanksgiving – 2025

Here we are at another Thanksgiving. I can remember as a child having a house filled with family and friends. How many times did Uncle Ralph and Aunty Carmela bring us a large turkey – too many to count. There would be a lot of laughing, a Lions football game then dinner followed by numerous card games.

Over the years things changed. Starting in the mid-1980s we started hosting Thanksgiving. Once again a house filled with people. Tables lined from the dining room into the living room. Again filled with family and friends. Nobody should be alone for Thanksgiving.

In the past few years it’s been Susan and me. Until my Aunt Irene died we would go and pick her up so that she could spend the day with us and have a good meal.

Now it’s just the two of us. It’s still wonderful, and we’ll be watching the Lions game. Susan will be texting with her sister who is a Packers fan. Dinner will be after the game.

Now on to some Thanksgiving comics –

Turkey can fly, just not very far. The first time that I saw turkeys in trees it was almost comical.

Now that it’s just the two of us we get a turkey breast which comes with “some” dark meat and bones which will be used to make turkey soup in the near future.

Ah yes, having a dinosaur descendent ofr dinner sounds appropriate.

If turkeys existed in Star Trek.

Indeed. Besides turkey we’ve also had chicken, goose and duck, all in addition to a turkey. Of course that was when we had a house filled with people.

Give away the food, but not the Dove Bars!

Wow, it’s hard to believe that we’ve been reading Arlo and Janis for 40 years.

More later…

  1. Amen. The comics were so nice to read, thank you for including. When I lost my parents, that holiday world that lasted more than 60 years just vanished. My mother was a work horse, and the best cook and baker in the universe. Our family mostly always came to our house. I still cook, it’s just not the same. I still watch the parade and look for the Snoopy float, our favorite! (though somehow missed it again this year!) I really love the cartoons, thank you, and Happy Thanksgiving.
