Right now I have a lot of books in the queue so to speak. It’s funny how my reading waxes and wanes as the seasons do. I find that I read a lot more once the weather has turned colder and wetter. So what is being read now and in the near future?

Right now I am reading Spillover which is about viruses that pass from animals to humans. I’ve read this in the past, but it’s nice revisiting the origins of some modern plagues.
The rules of contagion will be next as it also covers epidemics and pandemics, but in a different way.
Have I read these two before? Probably, but it doesnt matter as I am and will be enjoying them either for the first or second time.

Since I was recently in the Pantanal my friend Lynn thought I would enjoy reading The Pantanal, Brazil’s forgotten widerness. I immediately dove into this and been consuming the chapters like courses of a great meal. If you’re interested in the Pantanal I can highly recommend this book.

Hearing a recent interview with Patti Smith, I thought that I’d re-read an early volume by her – Just kids.. This is the story about her relationship with Robert Mapplethorpe. It’s a powerful story – funny, romantic, sad and more. All of the emotions wrapped into a slim volume. Another book a I’d highly recommend.

A book that I read years ago (30+). I had lent it to a friend who recently returned it and thought that I should re-read it before putting it back on a shelf. It’s a great history about the colonial relationship between China and the European colonizing countries trying to make inroads into this vast country.
That’s all for now.
More later…
