United States Marine Corps anniversary

Today is the 250th anniversary of the USMC. The reason that this is important to me is because of my father who was a marine in the South Pacific during World War II.

My father in 1945 after coming back from the South Pacific.

My fathers journey 1942-1945.

My father with a “pack howitzer” in the South Pacific. He’s at the tail of the gun, number-8. He went there and squatted so that nobody back home could see how skinny he was. At this point he was probably already suffering from the effects of dengue fever, a nasty virus that put him into the hospital most of 1944 and 1945.

My father was a member of the 22nd Marines, reinforced at the invasion of Guam.

My father was here as a member of the 22nd Marines, second separate pack howitzer company.

As a result of my father becoming a marine in 1942 a number of his nephews became marine later in the 1950s and later.

More later…

  1. What a wonderful honor for a family to have dedicated loyal members in our country’s service. Service is a great sacrifice and every participant deserves honors and admiration and reverence. And every family does too. Congratulations!
