A poem by Martin Niemöller

In November, 2016 I was concerned about the fascist takeover of the U.S. presidency. I thought that things were going to get very bad. Well, they did, but in 2020 the fascist regime ended – at least that is what we all thought.

In November, 2024 the fascists took over not only the presidency, but also congress. How bad could it get?

By mid-2025 it became clear as the fascists sent military into Liberal controlled cities killing and jailing citizens. ICE (Immigration Control and Enforcement), the modern Gestapo started arresting (and sometimes killing) citizens as well as non-citizens who were brown-skinned.

Now, with the fascist shutdown of the government SNAP benefits are being attacked. Now people are losing health insurance and access to affordable food. Where will it end?

No the poem –

Hopefully, we will make it to both the midterm elections and the 2028 presidential election.

More later…

  1. The poem is spot on. At least 1/2 of the country did not vote for him. Can you imagine if 95% did? It would even be worse than it is. Hopefully 2026 will restore the Congressional balance. He’s gone by 2028. We need to hold on to people, society and spirit in the meantime.
