About 5 years ago on a win I planted two fig trees that are supposed to be winter hardy. Over the years they have grown and died back in the winter, always look good in the summer. But no figs. Then two years ago we saw somebody on one of our morning walks that had fig trees with figs. Over the next year we watched how these people dealth with their figs in the winter. They cover the figs with leaf litter and then a tarp over them. The next summer these trees grew more vigorously and fruited. Well, last year I missed the window where I could have done the same and figured that I had missed my opportunity. This year the trees (more appropriately shrubs) spread a bit and grew rather vigorously, Then two days ago I noticed this –

I noriced that one of the shrubs had figs! They’re still quite small and have another two months to grow. So I am pleased and rather excited.
