Ann Arbor Spring

After being at Whitefish Point for much of April and the start of May we are back in Ann Arbor for a few days of shopping and planting.

Going out the back door we are now home to a nesting American Robin. AT first she was quite disturbed with our coming and going. But she has gotten used to us being here.

In the front yard our lilac is blooming. This shrub was a wedding present from our daughter Alexis 38 years ago. We’re getting to enjoy the flowers now and in a few weeks we’ll be enjoying them in the U.P.

But the reason we’re home, besides going to a friends birthday celebration, is to plant a garden. Bought plants on Thursday and have been planting since yesterday.

Tomorrow we will be heading north again where we’ll be until late May when we return home in time to head off on a birding trip to the Yukon in north-west Canada.

Until later…

  1. What is that tree? Looks like peonies, but they’re not a tree. I have a redbud that is magnificent and a huge Prairie Fire crabapple that I planted myself 20 years ago when it was shorter than I am; now it’s three times my size. The weeping cherry and forsythia are past their bloom and into leaf, and the lilacs are out. You should come over and see. I leave for Paris in a few weeks.

I gave up planting food because the deer and rabbits and squirrels ate it. Only a pepper plant by the side kitchen door, for cooking purposes. They don’t seem to like that.
