Traveling in the South – Staying on a cattle ranch

Before heading north, back to Michigan we spent a couple of days on a cattle ranch at the Florida-Alabama border. We had no Internet so couldn’t post anything. This place was wonderful.

The ranch/farm was some 300 acres, which we had access to.

This was our cabin, which was quite comfortable. and had all the necessities that we needed for a delightful stay.

Next to our cabin was a horse pasture.

But most of the pastures were come to cattle. This one had cows with young (and a Cattle Egret).

There were also chickens and turkeys with a few guinea fowl.

We had access to an electric golf cart as our mode of travel to the woods that where there was a spring fed stream separating us from Alabama.

All of the pastures had resident Eastern Meadowlarks.

While Susan had set up sheets and lights for moths near the cabin the real exciting mothing came from the moth trap that she set up in the woods by the stream.

The view looking into the trap in the moring after it had been operating all night. All of the moths were released after photographing them.

Susan photographing moths that spent the night on the egg cartons in the trap.

More on moths in a couple of days when we’ve had time to identify some. Anyway, tomorrow is April Fools!
