We’ve been on Dauphin Island for a couple of days and the birds are few and far between, with the exception of Yellow-rumped (Myrtle) Warblers. Several auditory highlights were a King Rail at the Audubon Bird Sanctuary and Clapper Rails at the old pier.

One thing that is amazing here is how big some of the magnolias are. Considering the effects of hurricanes these are tough trees.

The small lake where we had the King Rail. It was interesting that with eBird I had to document a Great Crested Flycatcher, but not a King Rail.

Not a great shot, but it was with my phone (why did I leave my camera at our rental?). There were two Loggerhead Shrikes on the speend limit sign. One flew off to the left as I went to take the picture. They obviously were not exceeding the speed limit.

A nice sunset to end the day. With a nice southerly breeze there is some hope of migrants tomorrow. We’ll see.
More later…
