Visiting our friends Tom and Kathi in Dunnellon, Florida is always fun. Yesterday our daily adventure started in the dark at the Withlacoochee State Game Area. Our first birds were Chuck-wills-widow, Bachman’s Sparrow and Bobwhite. These were soon followed with Red-headed Woodpecker and Hairy Woodpecker then Red-cockaded Woodpecker. All of these were in the dark or the first half hour of light.

Sunrise as we listened to Bobwhite and Bachman’s Sparrows on a sandy side road.

The main road well after sunrise where we started looking for other birds. After birds, plants and butterflies we stopped at McDonalds where we had to eat quickly.

At least the employees had to wash our hands.
OK, all funny business aside we had a great day with lots of birds, interesting plants and butterflies. In the evening Tom showed us photos from the Yukon and Brazil where we’ll be traveling with him later in the year.
More later…
