Drawings-10 (Prehistoric animals)

Two drawings of Smilodon (Saber-toother cat) skulls. Both views show different aspects of the skulls better. But how did the actual animal look?

Did Smilodon look like a lion, tiger or jaguar? Perhaps we’ll never know.

Arsinotherium, a prehistoric ungulate.

Recently we were in the U.P. and there was a statue outside of a business in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. I immediately asked why a Gigantopithecus was in the U.P? Well it wasn’t, apparently it was a Sasquatch.

I learned about this great ape back in the 1970s in a Primate evolution class. This large orangutang relative, which was bigger than a modern gorilla, was found in small numbers in south-east Asia.

Since we are headed to Florida next week I thought that a Terror bird was an appropriate bird to fantasize about. These large predatory birds once roamed the prairies of Florida replacing large predatory dinosaurs. Try imaging a bird bigger than modern Whooping Cranes, that was flightless instead running down prey and snatching them with their large bill.
