Last night’s bird talk

Last night I gave a talk on warbler migration for the Washtenaw Bird & Nature Alliance at the downtown Ann Arbor Library. As always it was amazing fun. I saw a lot of people that I hadn’t seen for years.

I censused birds in the Arb between 1979 and 2008. At the end my responsibilities at EMU became more demanding so I ended censusing at 30 years, which was actually pretty amazing.

For this talk I covered all of the warblers that occurred during the censuses done 1979-1995 (17 years) which covered over 16,000 warbler sightings.

We then discussed changes over time including the effects of climate change and other issues. People had good questions and we had great discussions.

I then brought up the issues with the University of Michigan wanting to put a monorail through School Girls Glen and how that would be extremely damaging to the Arb as well as bird migration.

If you want to see/watch the talk it’s available on the Washtenaw BNA YouTube website.

That’s all for now.
