My never-ending search for different living things is well underway in 2025. I started on January first with several walks in Eugene, Oregon. I had some 17 species of birds and managed to find a total of 116 species of animals, plants and fungi. Every walk that I take give me a chance of finding something that I had not yet encountered in the year. Since 2014 I have managed to find over 6600 species of living organisms.
I am anticipating 2025 to be my best year for seeing and photographing plants, fungi and animals. We’ll be in Florida and Alabama for all of March, then back in Michigan and heading to Whitefish Point for spring migration.
We are also planning on a trip to the Yukon in late May. But the real big trip will be when I get to go to southern Brazil.
But for today I have to stick with what I am seeing in Ann Arbor on our daily walks.

On our way to Plum Market this morning we had an Evergreen bagworm moth cocoon (left) and oriental bittersweet (right). Neither was new for the year, but both were worth noting.
