New Year’s Day – 2025

My day started slowly sipping coffee and watching the distant clouds to the north. Somehow I had managed to get a nasty cold. The somehow being that Susan had a few days earlier. Now it was my turn fight the crud. But I wasn’t going to let it keep from my my morning walk on New Year’s Day

On the morning walk we managed to see and hear some 16 species of birds. There were also lots of interesting plants and fungi.

A Yucca that is a short distance from the house.

For the second year we went to see the Woolly bird’s nest fungus, which for something so darn small is really exciting. The big ones in this photo are barely 5 mm across.

And finally an oak apple gall. This particular type had a small wasp that developed inside. The wasp then made a hole near the base of the gall level with the surface of the leaf.

By the end of the day I had managed to see 115 species of living organisms including 17 species of birds. And so another exciting year begins.

Until next time…
