Last moth night of 2024?

It was on the morning of 31 October that was checked on the moth trap that was set up the previous evening. The trap was set over one of our garden beds as pictured on the right.

The left photo is Susan photographing moths before we released them back into the wild.

The interesting thing about moth traps is that the insects are not killed which the word trap implies. The majority of moths descend into the trap which as a UV light suspended over it and alight on the cardboard egg cartons on the inside. It’s actually quite an elegant set up.

Following Halloween comes my favorite celebratory event of the year Dia de los muertos. Most people have an idea of what goes on at this time. But to truly understand it you have to be in Mexico, I experienced it once in the small town of Palenque back in the late 1980s. It was a magical night.

Now that the fascists have taken over here’s what the future could look like.
