The other day started out with a beautiful full Moon. Soon Susan and I were heading out to look for a bird that is a rare nesting species in Michigan.

We were headed to Sharon Mills.

There are nice trails that pass through grasslands and skirt the woods.

Milkweeds had monarch caterpillars and milkweed tussock moth caterpillars.

With some luck I got nice photos of a questionmark, with the definitive underwings view.

Clouded sulphur and American copper.

We even managed to find a net-winged beetle.

This was the “target” bird that we were looking for – a singing male Blue Grosneak. This is one of the few places where the species nests in Michigan.
More later.
