We’re staying with David, Susan’s brother in Woodstock, Georgia and went to walk the trail to the top of Stone Mountain.

The view from near the top of the mountain. According to our phones we climbed 17 stories to get here, although Susan went a bit higher. Way off in the distance on the left you can see downtown Atlanta on the horizon.

On our way out we did stop briefly to see the carving of Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson and Jefferson Davis insurgents who tried to overthrow the U.S. government while protecting slavery. There have been calls to deface the “monument,” but like it or not it’s part of U.S. history.

On our walk to the top of the mountain there were a few birds, like this Chipping Sparrow that was checking me out as I stopped to rest on the way down.

I had fun when this Pine Warbler landed near me and hopped around grabbing insects.
