Heading north from Dauphin Island Susan found a nice preserve for us to visit. I was all in especially after hearing it had a lot of different pitcher plants. As it turns out it has 10 species of carnivorous plants! We found ziz-zag bladderwort, Tracy’s and dwarf sundews and at least 4 different pitcher plants. The whole site had been burned recently so it was a bit of a challenge, but a nice was to spend a few hours.

Tracy’s sundew emerging from the wet soil.

White-topped pitcher plants.

One of the pitcher plants that is new for me. I’m still working on a positive id, but I think that I know the options.

Another of the same pitcher plant.

A similar species with flowers.

A smaller species with flowers opening.

Parrot pitcher plants.

I believe that this will be Hooded (Yellow) pitcher plant.

A nice group of flowers.
Walking the trails here, which required boots since we were occasionally ankle deep in water, rewarded us with tens of thousands of carnivorous plants. There were also a lot of other interesting plants and insects to see as well as singing Bachman’s Sparrows.
If you’re in the area I highly recommend visiting the site.
