Day-26: Getting to Dauphin Island, Alabama

We got to Fort Morgan, Alabama in time for the 10:15 AM CDT ferry to Dauphin Island. The cost ($27 for two people in a car) was well worth avoiding the two and a half hour drive around Mobile Bay.

So many times places advertise snakes, but they never deliver.

Close to the ferry dock there was a close oil rig. On the bay there were many more.

A couple of the dozens of oil rigs on Mobile Bay.

The “roller coaster” bridge connecting Dauphin Island to Mobile.

At the ferry landing there were American Oystercatchers.

We also had great looks at Laughing Gulls.

At the place we are staying there was a Summer Tanager, which is a treat for us northerners.

But the bird of the day was a Burrowing Owl at the long wooden pier from the Coastal Dunes Park to the Gulf.

More tomorrow…
