Day-15: Smyrna Dunes

Managed to great great photos of an Abbot’s bagworm moth coccoon. on a palm frond.

It’s hard for me to pass up the opportunity at getting a great photo of a Turkey Vulture.

Somehow, I thought that this Loggerhead Shrike was going to be the highlight of the day for me. We were close to it and it was quite tolerant of us. Little did I know that it would be one-upper by some neighbors.

Hunting shrike number two. We watched this Loggerhead Shrike catch a large caterpillar, then a large grasshopper. Both time disappearing with them. Well it turned out that he had a friend.

Mrs. Loggerhead Shrike on her nest. The nest was in a shrub within feet of the boardwalk.

When the nest was briefly empty I managed to get a photo of the two eggs she was incubating. All in all quite an exciting experience.

More later…
