Insurrection Day – 2024

It’s still had to believe the events of the 6th of January 2020. However, I watch the attempted overthrow of the U.S. government live on television. I called Susan, who was out on a walk and suggested that she get home as the situation was un-nerving and felt it would be better having her at the house.

Well, today was a different story. We went to the B2B trail, getting onto it in Dexter.

The day started with my third moth species of the year. This is an Evergreen bagworm moth cocoon.

We found quite a few virgin’s-bower. These are old seed heads.

I am always excited when I find “galls.” The one on the left is a willow cone-gall, while the one on the right is an oak apple-gall. Both of these have an insect larva in them with the plant responding forming a structure around them.

Beaver action was quite evident with a number of trees taken down near the river.

This is a “sea” of moss fruiting bodies. Being back in southern Michigan after close to two weeks in Oregon makes me miss mosses and lichens. I won’t see many until we head north in the spring and summer.

There were even bird to see. The male cardinal was just too nice to pass on. Where as the Pileated Woodpecker was a must get shot.

More later…
