Back in Ann Arbor where we found a yard full of flamingoes with hats and scarves.

There is currently an uptick in Covid cases and hospitalizations.

The current situation in Ann Arbor (from the Ann Arbor Observer).

More worrisome is the situation with influenza. So far this flu season 5,000 people have died. So, be careful out there.
On our trip home he heard a lot of coughing and sneezing at airports, which is a fast way of spreading viruses. Speaking of our flight.

I sit and write when I am on a plane. It allows me to pass the flight time more quickly. Well, on this flight there was a young man sitting next to me. He is an engineering student at UM and was drawing.
Then he took a page in his notebook and tore off a square which turned into an origami crane. He then positioned the crane on his notebook and sketched it – over and over again, frequently repositioning it. While he sketched, I wrote.
As the flight continued he fell asleep. I wrote my little poem on a napkin and placed it on his notebook. He found it when he woke while I was sleeping. Later he commented, thanking me that he like it, placing it with the sketch in the notebook.
Long flights can be interesting.
Now on to moths –

No, Woodstock wouldn’t make a good moth. But some moths still come to lights even in winter.

Our first moth of the year came to the porch light at Simon’s house in Eugene. This is a Winter moth (Operophtera brumata). This winter flying moth is a European species that has spread across North America in recent years.
More tomorrow…
