Books to read to the kids

On Saturday we watched the University of Michigan Wolverines beat the Ohio State University Buckeyes 30-24. The Wolverines are now #2 and OSU has dropped to #5. This means that UM cannot play OSU in the College Football Championship games, which I am pleased with.

Now on to books.

This December when we are visiting Alexis and the kids Alexis asked if I would started reading the “Myth” series to them. When she was young, approximately Camilla’s age I would read these to Alexis and she thoroughly enjoyed them. Interestingly, the author, Robert Aprin lived close to us in Ann Arbor. One of his children to to a school where Susan worked.

So I have re-read the first book, Another fine myth. I really enjoyed it. And I think that the kids will too – provided I “sanitize” some of the scenes in the book – mostly involving sex.

Camilla will enjoy the books as they have a lot of aspects found in D&D, which she has become interested in.

Books 3 and 4 in the series had a new illustrator and editor which didn’t affect the stories, but did result in changes to the covers.

I was probably on the fifth or sixth book when our nephew Nick (whose wedding we went to last year) visited us for Thanksgiving. He wasn’t a reader but as with Alexis was completely taken by the story. At the end of reading, as my voice was giving out he called out “No Uncle Michael, please keep reading.” When he went home we send a list of the books to his mother. Nick went from a non-reading pre-teen to a voracious reader. All as the result of a myth.

More tomorrow…
