Shortly after 5pm last night I got a call from my friend Don saying that there was a Limpkin in the Arboretum. Susan and I were getting ready for dinner, but immediately stopped and headed down to the Arb. It was a short walk from the Hospital parking lot to where there were several people. We saw friends Cathy, Ruth, Lyle and others who were at the bird. I managed to get a few photos of the Limpkin before we headed home to have dinner. The one above is perhaps the best photo that I got.
As far as the rarity of this species so far north – this is only the second state that I have seen one in, the other is Florida. It is Washtenaw County bird #307 and Michigan bird #373.
Now, what could be next?
