Oaxaca, day-9, San José de Pacifico and Oaxaca City

We had lunch at a coffee finca. To get up the mountain to get there we took “tuk-tuks” crazy little three-wheeled vehicles that we had seen everywhere. We had chicken and rice for lunch with some veggies. I also got to try the mezcal that the owner made – it was quite nice and I probably had a bit more that I should have.

Butterflies were abundant along the trail we took after lunch. The one on the left is a Crimson Patch. The other two are Anna’s eighty-eights. The center one is an underwings shot, the right one is the upper wing.

This Red-headed Tanager was the star of the visit.

Here we are on the road to our cabins.

And we finally arrived.

The views here were amazing.

Here’s the room that Mike and I shared.

This is where we had our meals.

This caterpillar, Acronyctodes mexicana was on the bench by our room.

There were a lot of there caterpillars (Graphocephala flavovittata) were common along the road. by the cabins.

This cute little bug is Liladownsia fraile.

Yet another interesting grasshopper.

The view of the mountains from the road that we were walking.

Russet Nightengale-Thrush by the cabins.

Yet more hummingbirds. White-eared Hummingbird on the left, Rivoli’s Hummingbird on the right. Unfortunately I missed getting photos of the Bumblebee Hummingbirds.

And a whole pile of moths at a light at an out-building at the cabins.

Out night at the cabins we ate at a nice Italian restaurant in town.

The final night of our visit to Oaxaca we were back in Oaxaca City and had dinner at Tierra del Sol, a gourmet restaurant about a kilometer from our hotel.

Back to Michigan tomorrow…
