Our day started heading from the city of Oaxaca to the Zapotec ruins of Monte Alban.

We spent over an hour searching for birds along the road leading to the ruins before the ruins were open. Here are a few that we found. Black-vented Oriole (left), Rufous-capped Warbler (center) and Blue Mockingbird (right).

These ruins are situated at about 6,000 feet.

The extensive ruins overlook the the valley in all directions.

One of the large courts flanked by structures.

The people give a good idea of the size of some of the structures.

One of the larges structures at Monte Alban.

The smallest ball courtyard that I have ever seen.
Tomorrow, the drive to Tehuantepec.
I visited several of the ruins of Mexico – Chichen Itza, Palenque, Teotihuacan… – and found them fascinating.
