Finding an orchid in the rain

We headed over to Portage Michigan in order to look for orange-fringed orchids at Bishop’s Bog.

Bishop’s Bog had an excellent board walk and lots of interesting plants.

We probably walk a mile along the board walk looking for orchids.

Button bush is a common shrub and can attract many insects. The one here is one of the flower flys.

Here’s Susan photographing orange-fringed orchids.

A couple of the 55 that we found. The larger flower stems were about 18-24 inches tall with an explosion of color.

Some carnivorous plants in the bog included many spatulate sundew, some round-leaf sundew and a few purple pitcher plants.
