Today’s color is purple

It was a beautiful morning, full of promise.

But a Whitefish Point the promise is more exciting than just a promise.

From minute to minute the skies can go from dark to cloudless.

A freighter with Ontario in the distance.

We went into town for lunch. No, TJ’s hasn’t reopened. In fact it’s been closed for more years than it was open.

But there’s now a food truck that parks there that sells wonderful whitefish plates. Needless to say, that was lunch. But back to the purple theme for the day.

A milkweed palnt with several monarch caterpillars. Or perhaps wild basil.

Perhaps you’d prefer fireweed (a favorite of mine) or Joe-pye-weed. But none of these were what we were looking for.

We were looking for a ditch filled with purple-fringed orchids. While this overview of the 100+ that were flowering in the ditch might not seen appealing. After all who wants to go into a ditch with the mosquitoes?

When you get down to their level, these 12 inch tall plants are amazing.

More tomorrow…
