We spent yesterday at the Eddy Discovery Center in western Washtenaw County.

There’s a small prairie between the parking lot and the trail that leads to the bog. Butterfly weed and spiderwort were the dominant flowering plants there.

Then we headed into the bog to find some orchids that should be blooming.

Grass-pink and Rose pogonia were blooming in numbers. The only Prairie white fringed orchid that we found was in bod and perhaps 8-10 days from flowering.

In the woods on the way out there was a nice Rattlesnake fern with a fertile frond.

There was also a huge patch of Squawroot.

Dinner in the evening was pita wraps with falafel, humus, baba ganoush, toum, pickles, pickled onions, red peppers, feta, arugula and lettuce. It was quite delightful.

Then this morning started with what looked like fog, but was really haze from the fires in Canada. Sure glad that we went to the bog yesterday.
More tomorrow…
