After the storm

There’s a huge heat wave slowly moving across the south/south-west, but it is also extending to the east/north-east.

That combined with Texas’ first case of endemic malaria (it already exists in the south-east).

In south-east Michigan on Sunday we finally got the storm that was supposed to be here. The temperature cooled down but there was also a lot of storm damage.

Down the street from us several large tree limbs were down. Fortunately, our trees didn’t sustain any damage.

This was across from our house.

A few minutes away the whole upper half of a tree came down.

I am always trying something new in the kitchen. On the weekend we were unable to get any falafel so I pulled out my cookbook and found a recipe for falafel. I had all of the ingredients. I even got to use a lot of stuff from the garden – garlic and a chili from last year along with fresh cilantro and parsley.

Left over chickpeas will become humus, and Susan will make baba ganoush. We have fresh pitas and toum from a local North African market. We also have dill pickles and pickled onions. This means that tomorrow we’ll have fatoush wraps for lunch or dinner.

More tomorrow…
