I am attempting to not be completely engulfed by birds while we are at Whitefish Point. But, since it was rainy today until close to 4PM it was easy. I filled part of the morning making bread dough, half of which went to making these. These are bacon-wrapped bread sticks. We discovered these at the bakery on Dauphin Island, Alabama. So, I figured that I could make them – how hard could it be? All it takes is bread dough rolled into a plump bread stick then wrapped with bacon. Bake at 400F for 35 minutes and this is the result. We each had one with our chili for dinner and it was pretty good.
Back to birds. Yesterday once the rain stopped in the late morning the birds were moving is huge numbers. I had close to 1300 Sharp-shinned Hawks, lots of harriers, broad-wings and falcons.
Today the rain didn’t until 4PM then the sharpies came through by the hundreds. There were close to 600 in two hours.
Without any rain predicted tomorrow (we’ll see how that goes) the flight should be wonderful. It’s about time for some major number of broad-wings.
More tomorrow, unless I’m exhausted.
