
While I have seen, and even photographed many Harlequin Ducks, this is the first one that has occurred in Washtenaw County, Michigan, a mere 19 minutes from our home.

This bird showed up on Ford Lake last month while we were in Florida. I had little hope that it would remain. However, here we are nearly a month after it appeared and it is not only still here, but on the Huron River. The fact that it is on the river and not the lake makes it much easier to photograph.

This parting shot reminds of photographing them along the coast in Oregon where they can be quite accommodating. The only place in Michigan where they are “semi” regular is at Whitefish Point.
