Two photos and a miss

Our day started our photographing roadside plants like this atamasco lily. Then got better.

At the Ecopassage Boardwalk on the south side of Gainesville we had eight Snail Kites. Unfortunately none we perched close enough for a photo, but several flew close enough for a decent shot.

The next “good bird” I should have had Susan turn around for, but didn’t since we were running late and wanted to get to Marianna before the storms started. The bird was a Gray Kingbird. Yes, no need to remind me that was a dumb idea.

Our next stop was at St. Mark’s Wildlife Refuge.

While I have had American Flamingo in North America (in Mexico), I had never had it in the U.S.A. So as my birding friends would say – a US tick and two Florida ticks, so I guess I can’t complain. No, the kites were just an annual bird, as we see them every year in Florida.

More tomorrow…
