Here’s where Susan and I started our day with our friend Tom. We were searching for Bachman’s Sparrows and Red-cockaded Woodpeckers.

We soon found ourselves in Middle Earth. Where one of the residents was…

Cousin Itt! OK, it was just a young long-leaf pine. But this is the habitat where we found the birds that we were looking for.

It was essentially pine-oak savannah. We had been hearing Bachman’s Sparrows and saw three Red-cockaded Woodpeckers.

But the highlight was watching a Bachman’s Sparrow singing from about 15 feet away.
Then late in the day we went to another site to finish our “B” day. We were taken to a barn where we heard young Barn Owls and ultimately saw an adult.
So, with the Bachman’s Sparrow and Barn Owl we had a perfect “B” day.
More later…
