Our day started with us searching for Yellow-crowned Night-Herons, which we did not find, and settling for a delightful puffer fish.

Carolina Saddlebags were our most numerous dragonflies today. The Little Yellow was one of many butterflies that we found today.

Finding a perched Barred Owl next to the road that we were on was wonderful.

Shortly after the owl we stopped to photograph a bladderwort and found a Southern Skipperling.

Watching an Osprey bring sticks to a nest (as its partner did as well) was worth stoping a a small fishing pier.

The another highlight was two Swallow-tailed Kites soaring overhead.

Stopping at Longleaf Pine Preserve proved to be the best choice for the afternoon. Pink Sundew were along most of the trail. And a Red-banded Hairstreak was a great find.

Oh-oh, an unidentified insect. I’d better get working on it.

Two of our last finds of the day were Yellow butterwort, another carnivorous plant. This Henry’s skipper was not expected in the south, but apparently occurs here.
And now for time insanity tomorrow –

So, remember to set your time machines for tomorrow.
More tomorrow…
