A fun day in Florida

Our day started with excellent looks at most of the large waders, including this stork.

I was pleased with how many good looks we had of Belted Kingfishers.

I can never get enough of Roseate Spoonbills.

A great variety of insects were on thistle flowers.

Here’s a skipper that I am still working on idnetifying.

In the afternoon we went to Smyrna Dunes Park with Roger and Dawn and had some great experiences. One highlight was finding some 45+ Palm Warblers in the dunes.

Another thrilling find was locating a pair of Loggerhead Shrikes. The male on top caught a grasshopper and brought it to the female.

And any day with a good look at a snake is a great day. This is a Southern black racer. We were perhaps 10-15 feet from it as it basked in the warm sand.

More later…
