Sunrise, as we started walking towards the point.

For me the real attraction was having the ability to get close to a lot of lichens. Parmelia, Physia, Tuckermanopsis, Everia, Ramalina and Usnea. Lots of variety.

The mountains in Ontario, due north of Whitefish Point.

Wild wormwood (Artemesia campestris). The seed heads above the snow.

Powdered sunshine lichen (Vulpicida pinastri). This is one my favorite lichens that grow on our property.

A male Pine Grosbeak on our deck. Can’t get much closer than this.

Susan, working on iNaturalist and keeping an eye on the feeders. The grosbeak is some six feet from her.

A Hairy Woodpecker feeding on suet.

A male cardinal, which is quite rare this far north.
More tomorrow…
