Visiting the EMU field station in Lapeer

Just north of Lapeer, Michigan, is the Eastern Michigan University Field Station. I spent many fun summers teaching here. The last was at the beginning of August in 2019, just before the pandemic started.

Susan and I got there early so that we would have time to walk some of the trails. We started at the cafeteria building where everybody would be gathering for a retirement celebration. The lights had attracted a bunch of moths.

The outside of the cafeteria where some 70 people gathered.

The inside where we got to see people I hadn’t talked to since I retired in September 2019. Some of the people here I had taught with since 1997 when I started at EMU. It was the largest indoor gathering that we have been to since the start of the pandemic. I still miss teaching there.

More tomorrow…
