Back to nature

It’s been overcast with intermittent rain since yesterday.

But don’t worry there’s always something to do.

We managed to find a blue-spotted salamander on the boardwalk to the point.

Damp, overcast days are great times to photograph lichens.

I spend a lot of time on damp knees with these little beauties.

This is Vulpicida pinastri, a delightful little lichen that grows on tree branches.

This is Cladonia pleurota, which grows on the sand on many of the dunes at Whitefish Point.

This morning there was an amazing diversity of flower flies.

The right one is Allograpta obliqua, a stunning little critter.

I even had time to get a shot of a Savannah Sparrow. We found quite a few along the edge pf the small jack pines lining the dune at the point.

Yet another patch of large, high bush blueberries that are calling to me.

And finally, moose track, within 30 meters of the cabin. Oh well, one day we’ll see one instead of just finding tracks.

More tomorrow…
