
Spent part of the day at Vermilion Point where we had a lot of insects and plants.


One of our target plants was Cases Ladies’-tresses. We managed to find some 24 of these.

We also found close to 30 Nodding Ladies’-tresses. There might also be some Sphinx Ladies’-tresses mixed in with these. I have a lot of trouble identifying Sphinx.

Great Lakes gentian was quite common. This is a photo looking down on one.

At lunchtime we went over the nearby MNA property to check out the trails.


We managed to find some interesting fungi. The fungus on the right is Coral tooth fungus (Hericium coralloides). The orange one on the left is Orange mycene (Mycene lyane).

But the highlight here might have been the high-bush blueberries. These were a nice lunchtime snack.
