Moth Monday with the family

While we had Oscar and Camilla outside looking at moths, Alexis sat and enjoyed a peaceful few minutes with a cup of coffee.

A large lace-border moth and a porcelain gray, two of the more attractive “white/gray” moths at the cabin this morning.

It’s hard to believe that the caterpillars of the painted lichen moth feed on lichens. Since we have a tremendous amount of lichens on our property, it’s not surprising that we get a bunch of lichen moths in the late summer and fall.

A cute little “micro-moth” that I have not identified yet. It’s probably 12-15mm in length.

One of several blinded sphinx moths that were here today. It’s helps with the identification if you can see the colors and spots in the hind wind.

The same sphinx that I let climb onto my hand and photograph.

Putnam’s looper, a beautiful moth that we look forward to seeing in July.

More tomorrow…
