Our final days visiting friends in Douglas, Michigan

Spending parts of two mornings at the Outdoor Discovery Center resulted is seeing a lot of birds, insects and plants.

A large number of interesting trails that would take the better part of a full day to cover. These go through a nice variety of habitats with varied plants and birds.

Hearing and finding Indigo Buntings always makes our day better. There’s a long story there that I’ll tell one day.

This male Rose-breasted Grosbeak was begging to have his picture taken as he spent time on the ground and lower in the trees around us.

Photographing any of the Empidonax flycatchers is both challenging and frustrating. Without hearing this Willow Flycatcher sing you couldn’t tell it apart from an Alder Flycatcher. Fortunately this one sang.

Dinner last night was at The Southerner where we had a delightful meal.

As we waited to be seated, we had a drink next to this delightful mural. What’s not to like with Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson.

Finally we had ice cream on the deck of a friend of Martin and Catherine’s watching the sun set over Lake Michigan.

The sun going down.

The end of the day our last night visiting Martin and Catherine.

More tomorrow…
