Being gone for ten days means that the garden needs attention, cleaning needs to be done and sadly we are “not” outside with birds, insects and plants. But, there are perks.

I collected garlic scapes today. There’s enough for a few meals. In fact we had some tonight with dinner. Susan also collected cilantro and arugula. I guess that summer is now here.
Interestingly, I got my first tick in years today, not wandering out in the wilds, but in our garden. That’s not fair. On the other hand the garden is looking pretty nice.

The tomatoes are growing, as are the peppers and basil. There are a few squash plants in and two eggplants. Dill, essentially a weed in our garden is thriving as is mint. Basil is doing well, and this year I planted some rosemary and thyme which I have not grown in a few years.
There are lots of marigolds and nasturtium. We even let a kale plant go to seed this year hoping that it will attract cabbage whites (butterflies) away from our new kale plants. We are about a week away from harvesting garlic, which is always exciting and rewarding.
More tomorrow…
