Catching up, but also taking time for birds

I was going to stay inside today and catch up on things, But the sunrise was just too nice to avoid the temptation of slowly driving to Paradise and seeing what was around. So we did a slow drive from Whitefish Point to Paradise, taking 2 hours to cover the 11 miles.

There were once again a lot of warblers, dominated today by Nashville Warblers and Ovenbirds, but with nice variety. When we got to Paradise we stopped at The Berry Patch for breakfast, now that it is open with regular predictable hours.

Following breakfast we headed off down Vermilion Road to Vermilion Point.

We had some nice looks at bog laurel, as well as some other plants.

Bog bean was in full bloom with their “fuzzy-looking” flowers.

Finally I went to a patch of this lycopodium. It might be Lycopodiella inundatum, but I’m still working on it.

As people who have known me since the 1970s know, I always have a camera close at hand. And I use it. So far this year I have photographed around 1,000 species of living organisms, including 486 plants, 186 birds and 106 moths. There’s a lot more to come.

More tomorrow…
