Tahquamenon Falls

Spending an overcast and misty day visiting the Upper Falls on the Tahquamenon River. This was the perfect way to spend the day. Lots of warblers and the Falls themselves. The distant view is just a quiet tease for getting close to them and their roar.

Each viewing site as you approach the falls gets louder.

Until you are finally there. The roar of the water in the spring is deafening and the root beer coloration due to the tannins in the water is beautiful.

Just like root beet the water below the falls is frothy. No matter how many times I have visited I am always impressed.

On our way back I noticed what must be the most isolated fairy/elf doorway into a tree.

Just as we were reaching the car a pair of Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers were having a drumming match. The two males were about 10 meters apart. This bird ultimately chased the other off.

And finally, monkeypox has made it into the meme world.

More tomorrow…
