The day started with a couple of species of moths on the deck. The Large gray pinion (Lithophane georgii) on the left is rather unusual here as is the darker Acadian swordgrass moth (Xylena phoracica) on the right. This spring is quite different from last year when we were having many more moths at the lights. This should change rapidly in the coming week.

Outside it is still gray and overcast, but the winds have shifted to the west. The good news is that there are more raptors today. The bad news is that they are quite high and drifting off into the mist over the bay

A walk to the point allowed us to watch a pair of displaying Horned Grebes.

The grebes post display.

A couple of Herring Gulls on the beach keeping an eye on Alison, the waterfowl counter.

While a but further west there was a pair of Ring-billed Gulls watching the waves.
More later…
