On overcast days with little migration happening it’s nice to go out and look at lichens. The photo on the left has at least five different lichens in it. The right-hand photo it dominated by a single species. All of these are waiting for identification since by major reference book is in Ann Arbor.

A flock of at least 25 Bohemian Waxwings with a close up on the right. With better lighting these are beautiful birds.

Bohemian Waxwings that were closer yesterday when it was sunny.

Our first moth at Whitefish Point this spring, This is in the genus Phigalia, and is probably Phigalia titea, The Half-wing. Although it might be Phigalia strigataria, the Small phigalia. Obviously still some work to be done on this on.
Spring is kicking into full swing here. The owl-banders at the Point caught a lots of Saw-whet Owls and Long-eared Owls last night, as well as a few Boreal Owls. The next two weeks will be interesting.
More tomorrow…
