The weekly report on the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic is showing an increase in cases in the U.S. and Canada. This was expected, as the new Omicron variant is spreading.

Data from Friday shows that the number of cases is increasing in both the U.S. and Canada. Stay tuned for more reporting in the future, and get you booster and don’t forget your mask (preferably KN95) in public spaces.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine is still a brutal was in the East and South-East Ukraine. Civilian deaths are rising and Russian forces seem to be regrouping in Belarus and Russia with plans of reinforcing troops in the East.

Enough of depressing, but relevant local and global events. Now on to Whitefish Point.

It’s hard to believe that last year on this date we were looking at plants at a bog in southern Michigan. I was only wearing a field shirt as I watched sundew and pitcher plants. Not quite the same this year.

And now your daily dose of Hoary Redpoll. We now have at least three among the hundreds of Common Redpolls visiting our feeders.

Our feeders are not only active during the day, but also at night. Our new trail-cam captured both a red fox and striped skunk checking out whats to eat.

We headed off on a walk to and down Wild Cat Road, about a mile from the cabin.

This was a garage wall on Wild Cat.

And some humor. Obviously, by June some of “their” mosquitoes will escape and become free-range.

And a new addition to the neighborhood – a beaver lodge! What a great excuse to hike down the mile and a half to glimpse a beaver.
That’s all for today, more tomorrow…
