Whitefish Point and the world

As we sit back and enjoy our morning coffee, looking out at the snow it is hard to not think about the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Northern Ukraine seems as though it is back in the hands of Ukrainian forces. But the Russian troops left the country devastated. Physical damage to buildings, executions, mass burials and rape, all in an effort to erase the Ukrainian people and their country. The East and South-East of Ukraine are still in Russian control for the most part. Mariupal is probably falling to the Russians unless Ukrainian forces can be helped by the West. But as I sit and write I also need to smile about something.

Those pesky free-range wild librarians are such an issue. In reality I could probably use one. But wait, I said that there would be birds!

Well, Woodstock is a bird, but what kind? Frankly, I think Woodstock is a Yellow Finch.

A distant ice cutter leading a freighter east towards Sault Ste. Marie.

The freighter following the path in the ice. The open water that you see is too close to shore and much shallower that necessary.

The hills miles to the north are Ontario.

More tomorrow…
